According to the calendar, warmer spring days are right around the corner but many visit Sun Valley to enjoy the lingering winter conditions that come with a mountain town. This year might look a bit differently than previous ones, but despite a few cancellations due to Covid, the Valley has plenty to offer all ages. Organizers are doing their best to provide virtual events where possible, and fortunately the great outdoors has not been canceled.

March 21– The Galena Loppet- A 25 km ski tour around the Galena ski trails. Beer and doughnuts- oh and it’s free! Bring your costume to the 10:00 a.m. start line. 

March 24 -25– Free nordic skiing and snowshoeing on all BCRD winter trails throughout the valley, including Galena and Harriman: https://www.bcrd.org/ski-free-days.php

March 29-Dollar Mountain Pond Skim- Cancelled

April 3– Ride Stride Glide at Galena Lodge- a 9km bike, 4.4 km run, and 9km ski. 8:30 registration- solo $25, 3 person team $60. Entry includes a hearty mug of soup and homemade sourdough bread. Proceeds go to the Galena Youth Adventure Camp Scholarship Fund. Race starts at 9:30!

April 4– Easter. The annual Easter egg hunt at Sun Valley Lodge has been canceled this year. If visiting during Easter with the kiddos, there are plenty of local shopping opportunities to make sure the Easter bunny delivers. 

April 14-18 The Sun Valley Film Festival’s 10th Anniversary will be virtual this year and will include original films, Q&A, and other virtual events. For more information visit: https://www.visitsunvalley.com/event/sun-valley-film-festival/

April 17– (estimated)-Closing Weekend/Gaper Day- Cancelled

Luckily the snow has a way of sticking around the valley through most of the spring, providing plenty of opportunities for some late season indulgence. 

Snowshoes, sleds, and nordic and alpine ski rentals are available through the Sun Valley Nordic and Snowshoe Center as well as other local establishments. The Center also rents fat-tire bikes.
