The July 4th holiday in Hailey, Idaho… Can it get any more Americana than this? Truly one of my favorite times of year as a member of the Hailey community. As in past years, the airport will be a participant in the parade with our bright green Aircraft Rescue Firefighting truck cruising down Main Street with airport staff tossing candy to the kids.

The busy summer season has arrived at the airport… The aircraft parking aprons are filling up at the FBO, and our air carrier flights are in full swing. If you are traveling through the terminal on your way out of town, please, get to the airport early – especially if you are flying out in the morning.

I traveled to Boston to attend the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) conference a few weeks ago. My first trip to Boston – what a great town. I was able to catch up with several other airport professionals and friends I have not seen in quite awhile. One of the highlights of my trip was serving as a mentor for a few college student mentees who are setting their sights on an airport management career.

I realized a few things from this trip; One, we work in a small world and I am grateful for the network of airport friends and colleagues I have established over my 25 year airport career. Two, I remember being one of those young airport professionals and wondering, where will this career take me? Three, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support and guidance from so many along my journey… Lastly, as challenging as it can be on certain days, I am so very proud and happy to be the airport manager at SUN working with a great Board, community, and one of the best airport staff one could ask for.

Happy and safe July 4th weekend!

Sincerely,

Chris
