Friedman Memorial Airport Land Acquisition and Aviation Development Environmental Assessment (EA)
OVERVIEW
The Friedman Memorial Airport Authority (FMAA), formed through a Joint Powers Agreement between Blaine County and the City of Hailey, operates and manages the Friedman Memorial Airport. The Airport is a commercial service airport serving several airlines and general aviation traffic. The FMAAÂ purchased approximately 386 acres of property south of the Airport and developed 10.4 acres of the acquired property into general aviation hangars, aircraft parking aprons, and associated vehicle parking and roadways adjacent to existing Airport facilities. The FMAA sought federal funding to assist with property acquisition and aviation development.
The FMAA and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have prepared an Environmental Assessment (EA) and the FAA has prepared a DOT Section 4(f) Evaluation and Finding of No Significant Impact/Record of Decision (FONSI/ROD) for improvements at the Friedman Memorial Airport (SUN).
The Final Environmental Assessment (EA) identified the potential environmental impacts associated with the Proposed Action, as well as how any identified impacts could be avoided, minimized, or mitigated. The Final EA was prepared pursuant to FAA requirements for compliance (FAA Order 1051.f) with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). Friedman Memorial Airport to explore land acquisition
Additional 385 acres would protect airport approach and departure areas and ensure land use compatibility
HAILEY, ID – June 1, 2020—The Friedman Memorial Airport Authority Board (FMAA) in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), today, announced the intention to explore the purchase of approximately 385 acres of undeveloped land to protect existing airport approach and departure areas and help ensure future land use compatibility for both airport users and the community. This project is expected to be funded by a grant from the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program.
The property, located south of the airport, and west of Highway 75, extending down to the city limits of Bellevue, is part of the Eccles Flying Hat Ranch.
